Why is Belly Fat Dangerous?

Fat stored around the midsection seems to be the easiest type to gain and the most difficult type to get rid of. It may seem like a minor annoyance or just something you would like to get rid of but don’t have the time to mess with, but chances are you would make losing it more of a priority if you understood how dangerous it could be for your overall health.

How much time do you spend worrying about getting cancer, heart disease, high blood pressure, or diabetes? If you are like most people, these worries cross your mind regularly, but what you really need to be worrying about is your belly fat. Since belly fat is a main factor in causing all of those health problems, it only makes sense that you should focus on that rather than living in fear of the disease.

Fat that is located around your belly is different from fat located in other places because of its close proximity to your organs. You may hate the fat on your thighs more because it makes looking good in blue jeans impossible, but the fat around your belly is actually what will lead to disease and possibly death.

Belly fat is underneath the muscle and wraps itself around your organs. If you have a very high fat percentage, you probably have fat marbled into your organs and muscle as well. This puts strain on your muscle and organs so they cannot function as well and it increases the amount of fatty acids leaked into your blood stream. Those fatty acids are what collect in the arteries leading to your heart, which can cause a stroke, heart attack, or long term heart disease.

This fat in your blood stream and folding around your organs also increases your risk of becoming resistant to insulin which means type 2 diabetes and it has now been linked to much higher risks of various types of cancer.

No amount of excess fat is really good for your body regardless of where it is stored, but the fat around your stomach is more concerning than any other type of stored fat. There is a reason many professionals will only measure your waist when determining how much weight you need to lose. That is the one area on the body that really matters to your life!

Now that you know the truth about body fat, what are you going to do to protect yourself? What are you willing to do to ensure belly fat does not lead you to an early grave?
