The Top 3 Reasons Why People Fail When Dieting

There are hundreds, if not thousands of diets out there and the weight loss industry is worth billions of dollars every year, yet the number of obese people in the world is rising every year – what is going wrong? Most people blame the diets and say they don’t work, and sometimes I’d agree that, yet even with the best diets that give you everything you need then people still fail with them, here are the top 3 reasons why I think people fail on their diets:

No maintenance plan
Some diets concentrate so much on the weight loss that they forget to tell you what to do after you lose the weight, which is just as important. Without a solid maintenance plan people to follow so you can keep eating healthily and keep the weight off then most people just think the diet has finished and go back to how they were eating before they started.

That is why people often complain that they lost weight but put it all back on again soon after. If you are on a diet then the way you ate before you started it is obviously what made you overweight in the first place! That’s why good weight loss programs will give you a maintenance system to follow so you can keep the results of all the hard work you put in.

Too difficult to keep up with
Again this is the fault of the people making the weight loss programs, if they are really hard to follow then while we might be wiling to rip apart our lives for a week or two, it just isn’t going to last long term. When you do finally get sick of the diet then you’ll feel guilty and probably come crashing off it by eating a load of bad stuff to cover up the guilt, so you’ll be worse off than ever.

Make sure you look into what a diet involves before you buy it, ones that require you to spend hours everyday cooking exotic things may be healthy and give you great tasting food, but if you don’t have time to do that then you won’t follow it for long. There are diets out there that are easy to follow so don’t settle for anything that you aren’t going to follow long term.

Not enough motivation to kick old habits
You can’t blame this one on the diet, this is when the diet is not asking you to do anything that takes a huge amount of time or effort, but you still aren’t motivated enough to change your old habits and end up spiralling out of control until you crash off the diet.

Often this starts with an innocent, ‘Well they can’t mean don’t eat any greasy takeaways, so I’ll just have one’ and then it quickly goes downhill from there. You need to make sure at the start of the diet you know your motivation for losing weight and that motivation needs to be strong enough to make you resist your old favourite foods and give you time to learn how to enjoy simpler and healthier foods.

Now you know the top 3 reasons why people fail then you have no excuses left – get out there and make it work!
