It’s Ok to Crave Things While Dieting
Are you sitting there with a nagging feeling like you are missing out on something, like perhaps a chocolate brownie…? Don’t worry it is normal to daydream about all the yummy foods that will spoil your diet.
We all do it so don’t feel guilty about it, thinking about them is not the same as eating them! Most diet authors will try to tell you that after a certain amount of time you won’t even like the sugary fattening foods you used to, but let’s face it you probably will and that is ok as long as you keep things in control and don’t binge, otherwise all your hard work will be for nothing.
While it may be great to know you’re normal what can you do about it? Often it feels like the daydreams are so powerful they will eventually make you crash out of your diet and stuff your face full of those forbidden foods, it doesn’t have to be that way though.
If you ignore the feelings and even try to suppress them then they are just going to keep coming back and your willpower may not be strong enough at one point to stop yourself. Instead you need to embrace them and accept that they are just a normal part of dieting and don’t have to be acted on. Enjoy them instead of fearing them.
It also helps if you stop thinking of yourself as a dieter, that just makes it sound like you are someone who is restricting themselves from eating the foods they like, instead think of yourself as a healthy and slim person, that way you are the kind of person who would not eat that kind of food anyway so you are not missing out!
As you start to accept your new lifestyle and you start to form new habits and enjoy the new foods that you eat then you will find your daydreams for the bad stuff start to slowly fade away until you get to the point that eating and being healthy is just a normal part of life (with the odd treat thrown in of course!).
Becoming healthy is a long journey but the end result is well worth it. You don’t just give up poor eating habits one day and wake up thin the next like lots of people trying to sell you diets make you believe. It takes mental strength to stick to the right choices and turn your life around, but we can all do it if we want it bad enough.
