The Top Ten Fad Diets
In a world where everybody and their mother is trying to find the next diet that will help them lose ten, twenty, or even fifty pounds there is one solution that everyone seems to run to: The Fad Diet. The fad diet comes in many forms, and there are literally hundreds of them lurking around. This article will take a look at the top ten fad diets, and what makes them so special.
1. South Beach diet - The diet that nearly swept the nation is a diet that deals with eating lean meats and fish. By consistently eating good carbohydrates and good fats you will lose weight by building up an insulin resistance.
2. Lemonade diet - This fad, detox diet has been gaining popularity over the past few years. The diet consists of drinking lemon juice mixed with water, maple syrup, and a little bit of cayenne pepper. This is one the “master cleansers”, and is not necessarily a favorite for mass weight loss. In fact, the author of the diet says that you will gain about half of the weight back.
3. Atkins diet - The granddaddy of all fad diets has to be the Atkins diet. When it was first released over ten years ago the country went crazy for this no-carb diet. However, after Dr. Atkins died from heart complications people started rethinking this “healthy” diet.
4. Abs diet - This diet was created by the editor of Men’s Health magazine. Basically the goal of the diet is to lose enough weight so your abs are visible. The diet consists of low fats and high protein with an intense workout routine.
5. Apple cider vinegar diet - This diet consist of creating a tonic of apple, and fermented sugar and vinegar, and drinking it right before you eat. This was discovered in the 1950s, but by today’s standards it does not cause you to lose any weight, at all!
6. Fat Loss 4 Idiots - This is an online diet that will give you an 11 day food plan, followed by a 3 day cheat plan. The diet consists of lean proteins and whole foods, which is fairly typical diet fare.
7. Hallelujah diet - “The diet that God would have wanted us all to be on” is the premise for this diet created by Dr. George Malkmus. The diet consists of 85 percent raw food and 15 percent cooked foods concentrating on live enzymes that are good for cells in the body.
8. Hampton’s diet - This diet, which was created by the same guy in charge at the Atkins Center, has drawn similarities to the south beach diet and the Atkins diet. The diet concentrates on low carbohydrates.
9. Negative calorie diet - Eating vegetables such as asparagus, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, celery, and zucchini can actually be negative calories in that it causes more energy to digest than are in the vegetables themselves. While vegetables comprise the majority, a few fruits also fit into the negative calorie list of foods.
10. Peanut butter diet - A true fad diet in which you eat a series of low calorie foods whilst mixing in peanut butter every once and a while. This diet has gained notoriety because peanut is typically seen as a “bad” food, but in this case it can help you lose weight.
While many of these diets sound silly, the fact of the matter many millions of Americans try them every single day. If you are considering on going on one of these diets please consult a professional dietitian. Also, be careful as it is common to gain back more than the amount loss. This is due, in part, to the cravings that appear when eliminating foods from the diet.
