Many women are very worried about losing their baby weight once their new bundle of joy arrives. However, if you are overweight prior to becoming pregnant you may be a bit more worried, and you may be wondering how to lose weight while pregnant.
You can safely lose weight during pregnancy as long as you go about it in the right way. You should be keeping up with regular OB/GYN appointments and you should be having your weight monitored by your doctor. You should not be entirely focused on your weight gain, and you should always consult with your physician prior to beginning any weight loss program. Going about weight loss in the wrong way can cause both you and your unborn baby harm.
Once your doctor has given you the green light to workout, you can then address how to lose weight while pregnant. One of the best things you can do for your health, and the health of your baby is to start a weekly workout routine. This routine should not be strenuous and should not involve any rapid, shaking, or jerking motions.
A good example of a weekly routine is as follows: Walk on a treadmill, on an even, flat road surface, or on a gentle incline if you feel strong enough to do so. You can walk for about forty-five minutes, but you should not push yourself. This can be done four days per week, and your internal core temperature should be monitored throughout the process. You need to make sure your temperature does not exceed 101 degrees F. Just because you do not feel hot or sweaty does not mean your core temperature has not gotten too high.
In addition to this gentle walking, you can add an easy workout with light (no more than five pound) weights for a bit of toning, and strength training. This workout should be done on the off days from your walks, and can alternate between upper body and lower body strengthening.
It is important to remember that you do not need to panic when you gain weight while pregnant, you are supposed to! Some women have the feeling of “Oh no! I’m going to be huge!” and try to lose weight during pregnancy for that reason alone. That is very unsafe and can cause damage to your unborn child. It will also cause your metabolism to shut down completely in an attempt to save those much-needed calories.
If you continue to workout, eat right, and remain fit throughout your pregnancy, you will be on the right path to losing the baby weight faster after your baby is born as well. Wondering how to lose weight while pregnant is a valid question, but it should not be dwelled upon. Right now, you need to focus on your health, staying strong, keeping fit, building endurance for childbirth, and gaining the energy you will need to keep up with your new baby.
