Christian Weight Loss Advice

If you are an overweight Christian, you are not alone. The next time you attend a church function, take a look around and you will notice that most likely, overweight is the rule rather than the exception. So what why is this, and what can be done about it? Below is some effective Christian weight loss advice.

While some people are overweight due to medical reasons, most are overweight due to the fact that they overeat. As a Christian, you believe that your body is your temple, that it is the host for the Holy Spirit. By over eating, you put this temple under many negative effects; your energy levels are destroyed, your outward appearance suffers, and you tend to feel badly about yourself.

In addition to these issues, Christian weight loss guides believe that being overweight is a public display of your lack of self-control, your need for constant gratification, and your need to overindulge in your cravings. This is often considered to be gluttony, which is regarded as a serious offense. Gluttony is often grouped with drunkenness, stubbornness, disobedience, and rebellion. While these may be hard facts to face, there is something you can do about them.

Christian weight loss is to be centered around God, calling upon His help throughout the process. It is first important to understand that food can be an addiction, and when overeating, this sin must be dealt with and forgiveness and strength must be requested. Sins usually become a person’s master, grabbing and taking hold of everything you do, which should never be the case. This leaves you powerless to the sin, and allows you to continue the self-destructive behavior.

To start your weight loss plan, you should first identify your “guilty pleasures”. What is it that you tend to eat too much of? Do you know that this food is bad for you, but you eat it anyway? Do you know that you eat too much of it, but you continue to do so? Does the thought of giving it up forever make you panic? If you have identified with these questions you have allowed food to rule your life.

Now that you have identified your problem, you need to deal with it and repent. You need to turn away from this sin forever, and become a healthier person, making your temple whole again. It is important to understand that you may be a bit fearful, or feel a bit overwhelmed, and it is ok to ask for help. You do not have to go through this process alone. Try joining a support group at church, or starting your new diet with a fellow parishioner.

Christian weight loss plans are focused on teaching you to honor, love, and respect yourself, and the gift you are from God. You need to learn to once again treat food as a source of nourishment and a necessity for sustaining life. Once you are able to refocus yourself, and change your ways you will be on the right path to a healthier life both spiritually and physically.
