Sleep apnea causes you to stop breathing for short periods of time during sleep and has been directly related to weight.

3. Being overweight takes a large toll on your joints. People who are overweight put their joints under a great deal more pressure, which leads to arthritis, joint deterioration, and other conditions such as Gout.

4. Another one of the main reasons to lose weight is for energy. Excess body fat can rapidly decrease energy levels. Adding an extra ten pounds of body fat is comparable to having to carry around a ten-pound bag of lard with you all day. You become tired more easily, and lack the energy needed to perform routine tasks.

5. Women who are overweight can also have issues with their reproductive health. It is not uncommon for overweight women to have ovulation and infertility issues.

6. Type two diabetes has been directly linked to obesity. Individuals who carry a great deal more weight than normal have a much higher risk of developing this condition due to the fact that their blood sugar levels are harder to regulate naturally.

7. The last, but most certainly not the least of the reasons to lose weight, is that extra weight poses a greater risk of developing certain types of cancer. Men who are considerably overweight, or those who are considered to be obese have a higher risk of developing colon, rectal, and/or prostate cancers. Women who are considerably overweight, or those who are considered to be obese have a higher risk of developing breast, uterine, gallbladder, cervical, and/or ovarian cancer.
