5 Top Diet Tips

Dieting is hard work. Anyone that tries to tell you otherwise is either lying, trying to sell you something, or has never been on a diet themselves! However, there are thousands of tips and tricks that people have picked up along the way that can really help you to stick to your diet and to get the most out of it. Below are 5 of the top diet tips I have come across.

Keep a food journal – This absolutely, positively, is the best advice I can give any person that is serious about either losing weight or eating healthier. Let me ask you a question: If you were to read that one of your friends had 1 Red Bull for breakfast, five Cheetos and a piece of chocolate cake for lunch, and then a bowl of macaroni and cheese for dinner, what would you say? Well if you make a food journal, and write down every little thing that you eat, you will most likely be repulsed at some of the stuff you put in your body. Making a journal makes eating a little bit more personal, as you have to write down exactly what you ate. Would you rather write down that you ate carrots and cucumbers for a snack, or French fries and a soda?

Take your lunch to work – Personally, I have found that this helps my diet, and my wallet. You will also be amazed on how much more energy you have at around 3 or 4 o’clock. When everyone else in your office is nodding off and taking siestas you will be hard at work. Why? Because you didn’t eat Taco Bell for lunch! The next time you make a run to the grocery store, sat a while and take a look in the produce, bakery, and meat sections. Plan out your next week or two and buy some lunch meat to make sandwiches. Buy some salad greens and start bringing salads to work. Eating out when you are work forces you eat unhealthy. Even if you go to a place that you think is healthy, you are over paying for something that you can probably prepare at home and bring in to work.

Eat a BIG breakfast – While I am no way condoning that you pig out at any point in the day, the best time to eat a great big meal is at the beginning of the day. This is especially true if you are going to be exerting a lot of energy throughout the day. Eating a big breakfast should carry you through to lunch, where you don’t need to eat a lot in the middle of the day, which usually leaves us tired in the afternoon.

When eating out, eat half, and take the rest home – I know plenty of people that do this. Simply order something like you normally would, but when the waiter brings your food, have him bring an extra box. When you get your plate, immediately put half in the box, and eat the other half. Eat the other half for lunch the next day.

Eat more vegetables – This may be the most common weight loss advice out there, but it is so true. Most vegetables have very few calories, and some even have negative calories. Meaning that it takes more calories to diet than what is actually in the food. That means that you can actually lose weight while eating!

Armed with this information, you can now use these five top diet tips to help you eat healthier and lose that extra weight.
