Intro: Have you ever seen those bags of banana slices you can buy? They look like a healthy treat don’t they? However there may be more to that innocent bag than it seems… The problem with a lot of these ‘healthy snacks’ is that they have been processed in a way to make them tastier, but that seriously affects their nutritional makeup. For instance a common way to preserve and sweeten these pieces of fruit is to glaze them with sugar, which then turns them from healthy fruit into essentially a sugar-filled sweet.

The banana chips we are looking at today may have been glazed as the carbohydrate content is at about 50%, but it is hard to tell for sure as the USDA database does not give us that information. However the most worrying change for me is that these chips must have been fried at some point because they have taken bits of fruit with less than 0.5% fat in them, and turned them into these chips with nearly 30% in them and about 25% saturated fat! So while these may seem healthy as they are made from fruit, then you would be best to steer clear of them in my opinion.
