Intro: Pheasant is supposed to be a very luxurious bird to eat, it used to be enjoyed by kings and noblemen hundreds of years ago, however now pretty much anyone can enjoy this if they are willing to pay the premium that people ask for it (even though in the UK during hunting season they have surplus that they bury, the reputation this bird has means stores still try to charge a premium for it).

If somebody talks about a pheasant then probably the image that comes into your head is the beautiful brightly colored bird with the blue head, deep orange body and long tail feathers… but that is just the male of the species who uses the coloration to try and attract mates. The female pheasant is actually quite dull looking and it smaller with just light and dark brown coloring and smaller tail feathers.

There is nothing particularly special about this meat nutritionally speaking and I can’t comment on the taste as I have never eaten it, however I assume it tastes quite special and unique otherwise people have been paying over the odds for this for years!
