Intro: A Daiquiri can be made in many different ways, but the basic ingredients are rum, lime juice, sugar and ice. The drink is believed to have been invented around 1900 in a bar named Venus in Santiago, Cuba, just 23 miles from an iron mine called Daquiri. It became a popular local drink for years and then in 1909 a US Navy Admiral tried the drink and then liked it so much he introduced it to his friends back home in Washington, D.C. That helped its popularity, and then in the 1940s it was given a boost again as wartime rationing made whiskey, vodka etc a lot harder to get, but rum was easy to get from Latin America and Cuba, so the Daiquiri was a popular choice.

As you can imagine the introduction of sugar ups the carbs in the drink a lot. Vodka, rum and gin on their own have 0 carbs, but this has about 7 – 8% carbs in it, which is something to remember if you are watching your figure.
