Intro: This is the traditional doughnut with raspberry jam in it – my favorite! You can get different ones with apple jam in, or custard, even chocolate custard etc, but this the one I think everyone remembers when they hear the word ‘doughnut’. They are actually pretty simple cakes, they are just balls of flour dough which have been deep-fried (the most common method) or baked in a flattened sphere shape, and then injected with jam.

As you can imagine then while they are really tasty, they are not the healthiest treats in the world. Looking at the stats below then they are about 5% saturated fat, 16% fat in total, with a whopping 36%+ of carbs in them, plus some protein and a little bit of fiber. They also have a huge amount of salt in them, but I was surprised to see how many minerals and vitamins are in a doughnut, that must be from the flour in the dough. Plus there are some essential amino acids too.
