Intro: Spongecake – my favourite kind of cake! Well it is a close call between this and carrot cake actually, but I think this does win. I love this because it is so light and easy to eat, you don’t have to chew on it much, you can just gobble it down and enjoy its sugary goodness! The best kind if with cream and strawberry jam in the middle, I am sure people have tried all sorts of different things in the middle, but ‘if it isn’t broken then don’t try and fix it’ is what I believe!

Don’t be mistaken in thinking that as this cake is light and fluffy that it is healthier than other types though, it is still loaded with simple carbs the same as the rest. It does beat them on protein though, it has about 5% protein in it according to those figures below, yet it has very little fiber in it, less than 0.5%, and something like chocolate cake has around 3 – 3.5% in comparison. It is low in fat though being about 3% fat overall compared to 14/15% for chocolate cake.
