White Pita Bread Nutrition Facts

Serving size analysed: 60g, 1 pita
Intro: This is the white bread version of the pita bread that we spoke about yesterday. So you still get that unique pocket in the middle of the bread which is so handy for putting fillings in, but what you don’t get is as much fiber, and the carbohydrates will be much easier to digest and give you a fast rise in blood sugar after you eat it. Although when people look at the glycemic index of food and think about how fast the sugar enters our bloodstream, what they don’t take into account is the glycemic load which is the value when combined with all the other food you are eating. So if you have a kebab with lots of meat and vegetables in that pita bread, then it will significantly change the glycemic load and stop the sugar from entering your system as quickly.
Usually I always go for whole wheat versions of anything I can, just because I want more fiber in my diet and think they are a lot more natural and healthy, but when you factor in that the pita bread usually has some sort of meat in it then I think that will balance out the GI value and not make it as bad.
