Intro: I love pita bread! This bread looks like a naan bread, but has a ‘pocket’ inside it which is created by steam which helps to puff up the dough. Most people would recognize pita bread as being the wrapping for a kebab, but I like to use them to make sandwiches instead. The bread is much thinner than traditional slices of bread, and sweeter, so it doesn’t overpower the taste of the contents like normal bread does sometimes, and it doesn’t dry everything out either. Also the fact it really is hollow inside means you can slice along one site and fill it up easily, then you don’t have the usual problem with all the contents coming out of the side of your sandwich as you bite into it.

Usually pita bread is quite small, but in 2001 then Georgios Mavroleon and Nektarios Fintikakis from Crete made one which still holds the world record and weighed in at 50kg! (110.2lb)
