Pear Nutrition Facts
Item: Pear (raw)
Scientific name: Pyrus communis
Serving size analysed: 178g, medium sized pear
Intro:These are European pears we are talking about, Pyrus Communis, that are native to eastern Europe and southwest Asia. They are the really tasty and juicy kind that dribble juice down your chin as you bite into them. I love to have a pear on a hot day as it is one of the juiciest fruits I know, plus you also get food and a kick of sugar too when you eat a pear. Although you can buy these pears pretty much anywhere in the world, I was shocked to learn that all those pears come from around 25 European cultivars and 15 Asian cultivars! (they must produce a lot of pears!).
The pears are actually picked when they are mature, but not yet ripe, and then they can be kept cold to be transported like that and then ripened when they reach their destination.
