Item: Granulated sugar
Scientific name: Sucrose
Serving size analysed: 4.2g, one teaspoon

Intro: The world seems to have gone sugar mad, we have sugar in everything we eat now, I’m not just talking about obvious things like chocolate, but I mean in juices, sauces, cereals, you would be amazed how much stuff contains either sugar or an equivalent substance to try and sweeten it up. Yet as sugar has no real nutritional value other than loading us up with calories, simple carbs and giving us a boost of energy (which quickly fades) then I think it is responsible for our obesity problems.

Of course this is the big debate at the moment, is it saturated fats or carbs that are making us fat? The government seem to think it is fat, and has done for decades, the only problem with them screaming at us constantly to avoid fat is that we seem to get fatter and fatter… so obviously something isn’t working.

Try to wean yourself off unnecessary sugar, I had it in tea and coffee for years, and when I decided to stop having it then I admit for a few weeks it was sour and weird. But now coffee and tea taste great and if I have sugar in them then they taste way too sweet and sickly, I don’t know how I drank it like that before!
