They are also low in fat, low in calories, and contain a good deal of water and fiber. Try to consume them fresh, or in juice form for best results.

2. Brightly Colored Veggies: Dark green and dark orange vegetables such as spinach, kale, broccoli, sweet potatoes, and carrots really add a lot to your daily diet. Dark green vegetables provide high levels of vitamins C and E, are high in potassium, magnesium, calcium, iron, and anti-cancer properties. Dark orange veggies are loaded with vitamin A. These items also provide high amounts of calcium, potassium, and vitamin C.

3. Eggs: “The Incredible Edible Egg” was not just a catchy marketing phrase. Eggs are most definitely a superfood. This staple contains twelve vitamins and minerals, and is a great source of lean protein.

4. Salmon: Providing plenty of omega-3 fatty acids, salmon helps to prevent heart disease. This tasty fish is also quite high in protein and iron, while remaining low in saturated fat, and calories.

5. Whole Grains: Whole grains are loaded with fiber, vitamins, minerals, phytochemicals, and antioxidants. They are naturally fat free, and cholesterol free as well. These types of foods are firmly rooted in the superfoods category due to the fact that they help to lower cholesterol levels, and reduce blood pressure. Whole grain foods also work with the body to protect against the development of heart disease, strokes, certain forms of cancer, and lower the risk of developing diabetes.

6. Beans: Beans are a superfood and a heart friendly food. This item on the list has both soluble and insoluble fiber, which helps to keep you feeling full for a longer period of time. Fiber also helps to rid the body of excess cholesterol and waste.
