Genie Diet Review Basics:

Overview

The Genie Diet, also known as the Genie Cleanse, is a 10 day program that includes ‘cleanse’ days to help flush out toxins from your system.

The main site claims that the reason most people who follow other diets put back on any weight they lose is because our bodies dump excess toxins they can’t handle into fat tissue to protect your body from absorbing too many toxins. When you lose fat then there are less places to store the toxins so as soon as you come off the diet your body just adds fat back on again to hold the excess.

So they suggest their diet, which also includes cleansing days to help rid your body of the toxins, will stop this from happening and you can keep any weight you lose off for good.

The membership area is well laid out, but when you start to dig into the content then it is a bit of a let down. The main cleanse is just a short explanation, it takes you through why they think their diet works, why it is better than expensive alternatives and then it tells you what you need to buy so you can stock up.

Then it takes you quickly through each day, day 1 is a preparation day, then you start two days of cleansing where you make a warm drink out of the ingredients they tell you and drink that 6 times a day, to finish off you go onto an extremely low calorie diet for 6 days followed by 2 more days of cleansing.

It doesn’t give you a lot of information though, you don’t know any potential problems, you don’t know how often you can repeat it (it tells you in the FAQs which are separate but that should be in with the main information!) so you are just left feeling that things have not been covered in enough detail.

The low calorie days are around 1000 calories each and then it says you can repeat the whole 10 day routine for up to 3 times in a row before you take some time off. 1000 calories is not many at all and will most likely force your body into starvation mode by slowing down your metabolism as it thinks you are starving.

There is a program to follow after you finish the main 10 day one to help you keep the weight off, but this tells you to use meal replacement shakes for the rest of your life which are costly and unnecessary, plus you only get roughly 1700 calories per day on that plan and they even suggest maybe eating less than that!

Nothing is mentioned about working out your daily calorie needs then creating a plan around that, so for some people 1700 calories will be way too low. For instance I need around 2100 calories a day to maintain my weight, so this means I will be losing weight all the time I am on the post cleanse maintenance plan…

The section on exercise gives very basic information but you do get some resistance exercises to do at home which are talked through and have some pictures.

I like the diary they include of a customer who followed the cleanse for the full 10 days and wrote down his thoughts and experiences, that is a good addition and helps you see what to expect.

The meal plans give tasty recipes for all sorts of meals you can try, but although you get a lot of nutritional information about what the meal contains, fat content and vitamins etc, strangely it doesn’t tell you how many calories are in them so you have no idea if they fit into the plan or not…

The bonus guides you get on fitting exercise into a busy schedule, boosting your metabolism and reducing stress are basic but do give some ok information.

All in all the cleanse does not sound that bad, although of course check with your doctor before trying anything like this, but the product really lacks detail and looks very rushed. The lack of calories in the diet is a real worry and the fact it does not take into account the different calorie needs of different people when you move onto the maintenance phase is also worrying.

Genie Diet Review – The Good & The Bad:

Pros

  • Claims to rid your body of toxins as well as fat

Cons

  • Requires you to buy meal replacement powder which it then asks you to continue using even after you have finished the cleanse/diet (not as healthy as real food long term)
  • Does not cover things in enough detail so you don’t understand why you are doing things, if there are any side effects, how to eat healthily, what to do if you get cravings etc
  • Puts you on extremely low calories and doesn’t take into account how many calories different people need when it gives you the maintenance plan for ongoing eating (one calorie amount cannot suit everyone!)

Genie Diet Review – Overall:

This diet does not go into anywhere enough detail about the science behind it and things to look out for, how to get the most out of it etc.

It also does not discuss healthy eating and the maintenance plan has far too few calories in our opinion and incorporates meal replacement shakes which are a poor substitute for real healthy food in the long term. It should also take into account your daily calorie needs when it chooses how many meals and calories you should be consuming but it doesn’t.
