We purchased and reviewed 27 of the top diets (plus we reviewed the cabbage soup diet and grapefruit diet which are free), some of them were fantastic, others were awful!

It took us months to purchase and review all those diets (yes we guarantee we have purchased every single diet we review and we prove it on every review page) but now we have a collection of detailed reviews for you to look through. This means you can read our diet reviews and know exactly what to expect, before you pay out a dime!

It is vitally important that before you purchase or begin a diet, you understand exactly what you are going to need to do on it. Even the best diet will fail miserably if it doesn't fit into your lifestyle, you might follow it for a few weeks, but eventually you are going to snap back to your old habits and crash off the diet.

Ideally you either need a diet which fits nicely with your current eating arrangements (i.e. not eating every 2 hours like some diets tell you to do) and gradually gets you to change your food choices so that you slowly break the bad habits you have formed and replace them with beneficial good habits.

Below you'll find the 3 we picked as the top diets out of all the ones we reviewed:

Weight Watchers
This diet stormed to the top because of the excellent offline and online support that you get to help you succeed, as well as the fact you get points for all foods so nothing is off limit, but you are taught to eat healthily and the point system gradually forces you to pay more attention to what you eat and make healthier choices.

The South Beach Diet
Most people think this diet is a fad because of the reference to Miami and South beach, but it is not about looking good on the beach, it is a balanced diet with emphasis on good fats and good carbs. There are 3 phases, phase 1 eases you off bad carbs, phase 2 is for ongoing weight loss and phase 3 is lifetime healthy eating.

Fit Yummy Mummy
This actually scored higher than the South Beach Diet, but it is aimed at just women, and specifically new mothers (although anyone can follow it) so it only comes in at #3. It incorporates a 16 week plan which gradually teaches you how to eat healthily and lose weight, along with a robust exercise program as well.

We separated out the top diet reviews for this page based on what the average person would want, we are talking about people who lead a busy life and want to lose weight and maybe get a bit fitter and defintiely want to make themselves healthier.

If you are looking to take things to the next level and lose weight and put on muscle and/or get seriously fit and lean then you might want to check out the list of all our diet reviews as there were some very high scoring diets focussed on achieving that, but we felt they would be too much work for the average person so they didn't make it onto this shortlist.
